Some acoustic guitar recordings I’ve made. The downloadable versions are all in Ogg Vorbis format.
This was written by Davey Graham. I tried to cover Bert Jansch’s version. Yes, I know I make lots of mistakes. That’s why I’m not a session musician. Recorded in December 2002.
Written by John Renbourn. Recorded in December 2002.
Anji and Judy recording notes:
One of the stereo channels is pickup->preamp->soundcard, the other is mic->preamp->soundcard. Recording software was arecord, normalised with Broadcast 2000 (now Cinelerra). Encoded with oggenc (quality level 5). No effects.
This is an old English dance tune. Here I’m trying to copy John Renbourn again. Recorded in August 2006. There’s a nice version played on some kind of pipe here.
Written by Ewan MacColl. I heard this on the album Jack Orion by Bert Jansch and that’s the version I’m trying to play. Apparently this is the same song that has been sung by Johnny Cash, Roberta Flack and others.
Trotto and ‘The first time I ever saw your face’ recording notes:
These are recorded in mono, using my mic only. I kept getting crackles on the recording when using my guitar’s pickup, so had to stop using it. Recorded, normalised and saved as Ogg Vorbis (quality 5) with Audacity. No effects.
This was written by John Renbourn. Recorded in August 2006. This has various problems but it’s my first attempt at recording it and it’s long, so it’ll take me a while to get it right. I’ll put an updated one up when I do.
The Hermit recording notes:
Recorded in stereo, one channel using the guitar’s pickup (which doesn’t seem to be crackling today), the other using a mic. Recorded, normalised and saved as Ogg Vorbis (quality 5) with Audacity. No effects.
